Eevee can evolve into eight different Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and most trainers eventually want to build all of them. But if you only have one rare Eevee — say, a Lucky or Shiny — which evolution gives you the most actual gameplay value? This guide ranks all 8 Eeveelutions by their overall raid utility, with cross-references to their PvP / Max Battle roles where relevant.
How This Ranking Was Calculated
- Primary metric: per-type DPS / eDPS in raid environments. Source: Type Ranking.
- Secondary metric: PvP Stat Product (Great / Ultra / Master League). PvP-leaning Eeveelutions are flagged in their card.
- Acquisition cost: All 8 evolve from a single Eevee, so candy / dust cost is comparable. The named-trade trick still works for the first evolution per nickname.
- Source data: based on values recalculated on this site from the live Pokémon GO game master — Doctor Pokégogo’s own DPS / Stat Product / GBL meta analytics.

The 8 Eeveelutions Ranked

Glaceon
Ice — One of the top non-Mega / non-Shadow Ice raid attackers. Frost Breath + Avalanche is a very efficient kit, and Ice is a high-value type against Dragon, Ground, Flying, and Grass bosses (Rayquaza, Garchomp, Landorus). Evolution: rename Eevee “Rea” once.

Sylveon
Fairy — A staple Fairy raid attacker behind only Zacian Crowned Sword and Mega Gardevoir. Charm + Dazzling Gleam is a high-value kit against Dragon and Dark bosses (Giratina, Hydreigon, Yveltal). Also a top-tier Great League pick. Evolution: rename “Kira” once.

Espeon
Psychic — One of the top non-Mega Psychic raid attackers. Confusion + Psychic / Future Sight is a glassy-but-deadly kit against Fighting and Poison bosses. Evolution: rename “Sakura” once (high-friendship by day also works).

Leafeon
Grass — A solid Grass raid attacker, useful against Water / Ground / Rock bosses (Kyogre, Groudon, Tyranitar). Outclassed by Mega Sceptile and Kartana but a strong non-Mega budget pick. Evolution: rename “Linnea” once.

Flareon
Fire — Strong base Attack but stuck with Fire Spin + Overheat / Flamethrower. Outclassed by Reshiram, Mega Charizard Y, and Shadow Entei in modern Fire raid metagames. Still usable as a Fire backup. Evolution: rename “Pyro”.

Vaporeon
Water — The “old reliable” — once a top Water attacker, now outclassed by Kyogre, Mega Blastoise, and Origin Palkia. Still usable as a budget Water pick and decent Great League bulky attacker. Evolution: rename “Rainer”.

Jolteon
Electric — Strong base Attack but locked into Volt Switch + Discharge / Thunder. Outclassed by Xurkitree, Mega Ampharos, Zekrom, and Therian Thundurus in modern Electric raids. Evolution: rename “Sparky”.

Umbreon
Dark — Last for raid utility (low base Attack), but a different lens entirely: Umbreon is one of the best Great League tanks in the entire game. Snarl + Foul Play is a top-tier closing kit. If you play GBL seriously, this should be your first Eeveelution to power up. Evolution: rename “Tamao” (high-friendship at night also works).

Named-Evolution Cheat Sheet
| Eeveelution | Nickname Trick |
|---|---|
| Vaporeon | Rainer |
| Jolteon | Sparky |
| Flareon | Pyro |
| Espeon | Sakura |
| Umbreon | Tamao |
| Leafeon | Linnea |
| Glaceon | Rea |
| Sylveon | Kira |
Each name only works once per account. After that, Espeon / Umbreon need 10 km Buddy walked + day/night evolve, Leafeon / Glaceon need a Mossy / Glacial Lure, and Sylveon needs 70 Buddy hearts.
Bottom Line
If you’re a raid-focused trainer, build Glaceon first, then Sylveon and Espeon. If you’re a PvP / Great League player, Umbreon jumps from #8 in this ranking to #1 in your priority list. Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon are all power-creep victims now — only build them if you’re missing decent Water / Electric / Fire raid attackers.
