  • Mon 6/15: claim your Candela's Research GO Pass rewards by 20:00 JST, and secure RoggenrolaRoggenrola during Max Monday to raise into GigalithGigalith
  • Tue 6/16: close out ZekromZekrom + Mega LopunnyMega Lopunny before the evening deadline
  • Wed 6/17: the raid switch brings NecrozmaNecrozma + Mega ScizorMega Scizor from 5:00 JST, with Raid Hour at 18:00 as the concentrated window

  • Sat 6/20: FrigibaxFrigibax Community Day from 14:00 JST for IV hunting and Candy
  • Continuing: Shadow DialgaShadow Dialga Shadow Raids — chip away whenever you have a spare slot

From here, we look at each event and Pokémon in order.

Candela's Research End — Until Mon 6/15 20:00 JST

Summer Trilogy part 3, themed around Team Valor leader Candela, comes to an end.

  • Deadline: Mon 6/15 20:00 JST
  • To do: finish any outstanding research tasks and claim your GO Pass rewards
  • GO Pass rewards: FlareonFlareon, RockruffRockruff, and the event-exclusive Candela-style PonytaCandela-style Ponyta

The most important deadline is the GO Pass rewards. The reward Pokémon must be claimed before Monday evening or they are gone.

During the event, wilds and research have centered on Fire and Fighting types — CharmanderCharmander, MankeyMankey, Hisuian GrowlitheHisuian Growlithe, MachopMachop, Ponyta, ScytherScyther, Flareon, and SlugmaSlugma among them. The chance to hunt wild Flareon and Rockruff also closes Monday evening.

Last Call: Zekrom + Mega Lopunny — Until Tue 6/16

The raid windows carrying over from last week close on Tuesday evening.

  • ZekromZekrom 5★ Legendary Raid: ends Tue 6/16 20:00 JST
  • Mega LopunnyMega Lopunny Mega Raid: ends Tue 6/16 20:30 JST

Zekrom is a top-tier Electric attacker.

  • Its best set uses the elite move Fusion Bolt
  • The standard Charged TM move Wild Charge is also a strong 2-bar attack
  • You can unlock most of its potential without spending an Elite Charged TM

With a built-in Water resistance, it also shines in total damage output against Water-type raid bosses. If you do not have one yet, make sure to raid before Tuesday 20:00 JST.

Mega Lopunny is a Normal / Fighting Mega Evolution.

  • Its Fighting charged move is the 1-bar Focus Blast, which is awkward in gym rotations
  • LucarioLucario and BlazikenBlaziken with Aura Sphere are simply easier to use
  • The Normal + Fighting double Candy boost still does honest work

As an attacker it is a modest pick, but as a Candy boost pickup it earns its keep.

Max Monday: Dynamax Roggenrola — Mon 6/15

The new week opens with Max Monday.

  • Time: Mon 6/15 6:00–21:00 JST
  • RoggenrolaDynamax Roggenrola spawns all day
  • As a Max Battle slot it continues through 6/21

Its final evolution GigalithGigalith is a Rock attacker with strong damage and bulk, rating highly in gyms and raids as well.

The headline is its Max Battle performance. The Dynamax Gigalith Max Battle evaluation rates it SS overall and SS on attack.

If you play Max Battles, stock up on Roggenrola on Monday.

★★★ Raid Switch: Necrozma + Mega Scizor — From Wed 6/17 5:00 JST

The biggest raid pivot of the week lands on Wednesday morning.

  • Switch time: Wed 6/17 5:00 JST
  • 5★ Legendary Raid: NecrozmaNecrozma takes over
  • Mega Raid: Mega ScizorMega Scizor arrives at the same time
  • Raid Hour: Wed 6/17 18:00–19:00 JST — your concentrated Necrozma window

Mega Scizor packs top-class Bug-type damage.

  • Bug itself has few headline matchups
  • As a Steel attacker it sits below Mega MetagrossMega Metagross and Mega LucarioMega Lucario
  • It offers a Steel + Bug double Candy boost

We rate it a step below the top tier, but it is a solid Candy farming pickup.

Necrozma's selling point is that it is a fusion Pokémon.

  • The base form appearing this week is not much of a battler on its own
  • The IVs and shiny status of the fused forms are inherited from the base Necrozma you fuse
  • To do: IV hunting and Candy farming in preparation for the fusions

Skip the power-ups for now — this week is about stacking high-IV candidates and Candy.

Reference: Necrozma Fused Forms

As a reference, here is how the two fused forms currently rate. Fusing Necrozma yields Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma.

Dusk Mane NecrozmaDusk Mane Necrozma is a top-level Steel / Psychic attacker. At launch its signature Sunsteel Strike hit so hard that it dominated the conversation.

With Crowned Sword ZacianCrowned Sword Zacian now in the game, however, it has lost a little of its spotlight in relative terms.

Dawn Wings NecrozmaDawn Wings Necrozma, by contrast, is the strongest Ghost-type attacker outside of Mega Evolutions. The two forms were considered roughly even at launch.

With Zacian reshaping the Steel landscape, Dawn Wings now looks like the stronger long-term pick.

There is no announced date for the fused forms to return, and no confirmed revival at GO Fest Global either — which is exactly why stacking high-IV base Necrozma and Candy now is the smart play.

Spotlight Hour: Swinub — Thu 6/18 18:00–19:00 JST

Spotlight Hour returns after a pause.

  • Time: Thu 6/18 18:00–19:00 JST — one hour only
  • SwinubSwinub spawns in large numbers
  • Bonus: 2× Candy for transferring Pokémon

It is the perfect moment to clear out your stockpiled Legendary extras.

Its evolution MamoswineMamoswine is a veteran top-tier Ice attacker.

  • Runs a respectable mono-Ground set as well — a true dual-role piece
  • Shadow MamoswineShadow Mamoswine is also in the game
  • Swinub Candy never goes to waste

One hour only, so set a reminder.

Shadow Dialga Shadow Raid — Continuing Until Tue 6/30 21:00 JST

The Shadow Raid headliner, Shadow DialgaShadow Dialga, continues until 21:00 JST on Tuesday 6/30.

  • Top-class Steel / Dragon firepower
  • Rated at the very top in raids, gyms, and Team GO Rocket battles alike
  • Its damage output is actually higher than Origin Forme DialgaOrigin Forme Dialga's

So even if you have been saving Dialga Candy for an Origin Forme Roar of Time build, a high-IV Shadow Dialga is a worthy place to spend that reserve. If you land a good one, power it up as a top priority.

★ Frigibax Community Day — Sat 6/20 14:00–17:00 JST

The biggest highlight of the week is Frigibax Community Day on Saturday afternoon.

  • Time: Sat 6/20 14:00–17:00 JST
  • FrigibaxFrigibax spawns en masse
  • Bonuses: 3× Stardust, 2× catch Candy, and 3-hour Incense

Evolve Frigibax into BaxcaliburBaxcalibur during the event window and it learns the event-exclusive Charged Attack Glaive Rush, a Dragon-type move.

Baxcalibur already rates as a top-class Ice attacker, standing alongside MamoswineMamoswine at the summit of the type.

  • Its Dragon-side performance has been middling so far
  • Glaive Rush gives it a real Dragon attacker role on top
  • To do: handle IV hunting, Candy farming, and the exclusive move pickup all in one event

As a genuine Ice + Dragon dual threat, this is the event to invest in this week.

This Week's Raid Pokémon

Here is a rundown of this week's raid Pokémon. The regular ★1 and ★3 raid bosses for the Wednesday 6/17 switch were not yet officially announced at the time this article was written, so only the confirmed entries are listed. If we had to pick a single standout from ★1 through ★5 raids this week, it would be Shadow BeldumShadow Beldum.

Raid Standout: Shadow Beldum → Shadow Metagross

Evolve the Shadow BeldumShadow Beldum from Shadow ★1 raids and you get Shadow MetagrossShadow Metagross, the strongest Steel-type Pokémon in the game.

  • Since only one Mega MetagrossMega Metagross fits in a party, multiple Shadow Metagross stack alongside it — you can never have too many
  • Psychic is a handy 2-bar charged move
  • Swapping its fast move to Zen Headbutt turns it into a capable Psychic attacker

If a Shadow Beldum raid pops up nearby, take it without hesitation.

Handy Tools

Here is another look at the two site tools featured in this week's video.

The first is the Max Battle Tank Ranking by Counter Type. For Max Battles, it shows at a glance — via a durability ranking — which Pokémon to place as a tank against which type of boss.

The second is the Rare Candy Recommendation Ranking. It visualizes, with bar charts and by use case — raids, gyms, Team GO Rocket, Max Battles, PvP, and more — which Pokémon to spend your Rare Candy on. The filtering options are extensive, so give it a try.
