Mega Raid Lineup
At GO Fest Global, the Mega Raids feature different Mega Evolutions on each day.
- Saturday, July 11: Mega Mewtwo X (Super Mega Raid) / Mega Ampharos / Mega Blaziken / Mega Abomasnow / Mega Alakazam / Mega Gengar / Mega Swampert / Mega Pidgeot / Mega Aerodactyl / Mega Salamence

How We Rank
This tier list is based on three axes.
- Type priority: how often you use that type in gyms and raids
- Stats: raw strength as a battler, based on base stats and overall stat ratings
- Real-world feel: how useful the author finds it in actual gym and raid battles
On type priority, Fighting, Ice, Ground and Rock are in high demand, while Flying, Psychic, Bug and Poison see less use — this is the author's read. PvP value is weighted low here, since Megas can only be used in the Mega League.
Tier List at a Glance
Here is the breakdown of each tier. Within the same tier, Pokémon further to the left are more recommended.
From here, we go through each Mega from the bottom D-tier up to the top.
Tier Breakdown
Mega Audino (D-tier)
Type: Normal / Fairy
Mega Audino. It has the lowest CP and weakest attack in this lineup. As a Normal/Fairy type, Normal rarely sees use and Fairy already has stronger Mega options, so it lands at the very bottom.
Mega Pidgeot (C-tier)
Type: Normal / Flying
Mega Pidgeot. A Flying/Normal attacker, but Flying types rarely get the spotlight in gyms or raids, and few legendary raids let Flying hit weaknesses. Its raw damage isn't low, though, so it ranks clearly above Mega Audino.
Mega Pinsir (C-tier)
Type: Bug / Flying
Mega Pinsir. A Bug/Flying type, but neither type is in high demand. Bug only shines against Dark/Psychic bosses, so its useful situations are very limited.
Mega Beedrill (C-tier)
Type: Bug / Poison
Mega Beedrill. Surprisingly, it is the strongest Poison-type Mega. But Poison only shines against Grass/Fairy bosses and is otherwise rarely needed, so even as the type's best it settles into C.
Mega Abomasnow (B-tier)
Type: Grass / Ice
Mega Abomasnow. A top-class Ice Mega. With no other strong Ice Mega around, it's the best almost by default. Ice is in high demand and it also carries Grass, so it lands at a fair, middle-of-the-road B.
Mega Alakazam (B-tier)
Type: Psychic
Mega Alakazam. Once a top-class Psychic attacker, but that changed once
Mega Mewtwo X and
Mega Mewtwo Y arrived. Psychic is also rarely called on in raids, which keeps it here.
Mega Ampharos (B-tier)
Type: Electric / Dragon
Mega Ampharos. An Electric/Dragon type and the strongest Electric Mega — more reliable than
Mega Manectric. It isn't weak, but its moves are a little lacking and the author personally doesn't use it much, hence this rank.
Mega Aerodactyl (B-tier, rank #11)
Type: Rock / Flying
Mega Aerodactyl. A Rock/Flying type with high Rock damage plus a Flying secondary, so you can hit Flying bosses' weaknesses while also farming Candy bonuses — a great pick for players hungry for resources.
Mega Salamence (A-tier, rank #10)
Type: Dragon / Flying
Mega Salamence. A top-class Dragon/Flying type, but
Mega Rayquaza is a strict upgrade for both Dragon and Flying, dropping it a step from the very top. For players who don't have Mega Rayquaza, this is the best.
Mega Garchomp (A-tier, rank #9)
Type: Dragon / Ground
Mega Garchomp. Undeniably top-class overall.
Primal Groudon (Ground) and
Mega Rayquaza (Dragon) outclass its damage, but it differs from Primal Groudon with an Electric triple resistance, rates well in PvP, and learns Sand Tomb — stronger than it looks.
Mega Gardevoir (A-tier, rank #8)
Type: Psychic / Fairy
Mega Gardevoir. The strongest Fairy Mega. But Fairy is a slightly awkward attacking type, and moves like Charm and Dazzling Gleam are hard to use, so it can't reach the very top. It's a reliable piece for low-group Dragon raids.
Mega Swampert (A-tier, rank #7)
Type: Water / Ground
Mega Swampert.
Primal Kyogre is the superior Water attacker, but its Ground secondary clearly sets it apart — you can farm Ground Candy bonuses while hitting weaknesses with Water, which Primal Kyogre cannot do, with almost no loss in damage.
Mega Sceptile (A-tier, rank #6)
Type: Grass / Dragon
Mega Sceptile. The strongest Grass Mega. Water bosses are only weak to Grass or Electric, and Sceptile pairs top-class Grass damage with a double resistance to Water, making it reliable for low-group Water raids. Paired with
Kartana, the pure-power benchmark, it tears through Water bosses.
Mega Metagross (S-tier, rank #5)
Type: Steel / Psychic
Mega Metagross. The strongest Steel Mega once you count bulk. But it arrived late and feels overshadowed; strong Steel types like
Crowned Sword Zacian and
Dusk Mane Necrozma already exist, and
Mega Lucario can stand in for it, so it sits at the bottom of S. Even so, the Pokemon itself is still very strong and sees plenty of use against Fairy bosses.
Mega Gengar (S-tier, rank #4)
Type: Ghost / Poison
Mega Gengar. The strongest Ghost-type Pokemon, and clearly number one among Ghost Megas. Ghost is a frequently used offensive type, but Gengar is a little fragile, leaving some worry against Psychic foes, hence this rank.
Mega Tyranitar (S-tier, rank #3)
Type: Rock / Dark
Mega Tyranitar. It isn't the best in burst damage, but it deals the most over a full fight. For raw power there are
Mega Absol and
Mega Diancie, but Tyranitar puts out more total damage. Some players keep a second one just for Dark, and it's an essential piece for comfortable raiding going forward.
Mega Blaziken (S-tier, rank #2)
Type: Fire / Fighting
Mega Blaziken. Its key strength is its Fighting role, a type you use a lot for taking down gyms. Gaining Aura Sphere as a strong charged move lifted its rating sharply. It's neck-and-neck with number one; the only gap is future potential.
Mega Lucario (S-tier, rank #1)
Type: Fighting / Steel
Mega Lucario. The number one pick. Fighting is the type you use most in gyms, which carries it. It also has the Steel type, so it can farm Candy bonuses while attacking targets weak to Steel, and it can run Bullet Punch / Meteor Mash — giving it a wide range of uses. The prospect of a further hidden card, Mega Lucario Z, also lifts its rating.
Mega Mewtwo Y (SS-tier (Super Mega Raid))
Type: Psychic
Mega Mewtwo Y. It can be called the highest-CP Pokemon of all. Being pure Psychic, it plays like the standard Mewtwo you already know — leaning on Psystrike and backing it up with a secondary move. Recommended for those who want the true strongest.
Mega Mewtwo X (SS-tier (Super Mega Raid))
Type: Psychic / Fighting
Mega Mewtwo X. Its biggest point is gaining the Fighting type: when it has Counter as its fast move, it gets STAB on it and can rank number one in Fighting-type damage. Its max CP yields to Y, but it has a clear role in gyms and raids — especially gyms — so it's more practical in real use.
