Pokémon GO Weekly Plan May 25–31, 2026: Mega Mewtwo X & Y Super Mega Raid Debut, Tapu Fini, GO Fest Tokyo

May 25–31, 2026 in Pokémon GO falls during the GO Fest 2026 Tokyo event window — a special week shaped by the on-site Tokyo events as well as a worldwide raid rotation that pivots midweek on Wednesday 5/27.

This is Doctor Pokégogochi. Thanks for stopping by.

Here are the main events this week:

If you are not attending GO Fest 2026 Tokyo in person, the standalone GO Fest 2026 Global event is scheduled for July with worldwide participation — Mega Mewtwo has also been pre-announced for that window, so you will get another shot at it then.

This article walks through the schedule and the featured Pokémon, sorted into three priority tiers: Highest (priority 3), Mid (priority 2), and Low (priority 1). The analysis is sourced from the data on the site below.

We also publish a tool that shows which Pokémon to spend your Rare Candy on at a glance.

Individual Pokémon pages are also available, so feel free to look up the species you are interested in.

All times are shown in JST (Japan Standard Time, UTC+9). Niantic syncs global event windows to JST, so the JST values are authoritative. If you play outside Japan, you can also check your in-game Today View for the local equivalent.

Ongoing (★1 / ★3 Raid spawns) GarchompGible / Swinub / Shadow Larvitar (evolutions are DPS top tier) Highest

For trainers who are not attending GO Fest Tokyo, the rhythm of the week looks like this: secure female Combee in Monday's Max Monday for the Dynamax Vespiquen evolution, finish Tapu Bulu + Mega Altaria before Tuesday 21:00 as a last call, then move into Tapu Fini + Mega Medicham from Wednesday onward — and the top priority every day is farming Gible, Swinub, and Shadow Larvitar from the ★1 / ★3 raid slots so you can evolve into Garchomp, Mamoswine, and Shadow Tyranitar. On-site Tokyo participants also get City Explorer Timed Research plus the Mega Mewtwo Super Mega Raid on top of all that.

From here, we look at each ongoing and new Pokémon in order.

Shadow Cresselia (Final Week — Until 6/2 Tue 20:00 JST)

Shadow CresseliaShadow Cresselia runs through Tuesday 6/2 at 20:00 JST — the final week of its 4-week appearance. Its main strengths sit in Super League and Hyper League, where the bulky stat line shines. In Hyper League in particular, Shadow Cresselia is rated among the very top SCP picks.

The signature appeal is the small chance to catch a Super League–legal copy from a Shadow Raid (CP1500 or below). That is the angle to chase this week — this is the last window to make it happen, so it is worth a look if you have been holding off.

Last Call: Tapu Bulu & Mega Altaria (Until 5/26 Tue 21:00 JST)

Two raids close together at 21:00 JST on Tuesday 5/26: Tapu BuluTapu Bulu 5★ Legendary Raid and Mega AltariaMega Altaria Mega Raid.

Tapu Bulu has top-tier raw stats for a Grass-type raid attacker, but as a Fairy-type it cannot learn a Fairy fast move — so the practical kit is Grass fast move + Fairy charged move. The real selling point this week is the matchup as a raid boss: Grass / Fairy is double-weak to Poison, so this raid is one of the rare windows where Poison attackers like Mega Beedrill or Eternatus get a turn in the spotlight. If you have a built Poison attacker, this is the week to use it. The 21:00 JST Tuesday cutoff is the last chance to catch this generation of Tapu Bulu.

Mega Altaria is a Dragon / Fairy dual-type Mega, mainly used as a Candy farmer rather than a combat piece — its Mega stats are on the lower end. The Mega Energy cost is higher than average, so it usually takes around two raid clears to fully unlock Mega Evolution. Plan a quick last-call run if you have not banked the Energy yet.

Max Monday: Dynamax Combee / Dynamax Vespiquen (5/25 Mon)

Monday 5/25 from 6:00 to 21:00 JST hosts Dynamax CombeeDynamax Combee in Max Battles. There is no focused spawn window this Max Monday — it is an all-day regular spawn, so plan to drop in any time during the 15-hour window.

Combee spawns both male and female, but only the female can evolve into VespiquenVespiquen. Female Combee spawns at a low rate, so you will need to check what you catch. If you do pull a female Dynamax Combee, evolve it into Dynamax Vespiquen.

As an evolved Pokémon, Vespiquen's raw stats are nothing special, but the Bug / Flying dual typing gives it double resistance to both Grass and Fighting — enough to do basic work as a tank.

Dynamax Vespiquen has a wide attack pool across multiple types, but its attack stat is low — so the role is purely as a tank rather than a damage dealer.

The tank evaluation is actually quite strong: against Gigantamax Rillaboom in particular, Dynamax Vespiquen places around #3 in the simulator's tank rankings. If you take Max Battles seriously — especially solo clears — having another double-resistance tank in your roster is a real asset. It is worth grabbing a female Combee this Monday.

Tapu Fini 5★ Legendary Raid (5/27 Wed – 6/2 Tue)

From Wednesday 5/27 at 5:00 JST through Tuesday 6/2 at 20:00, Tapu FiniTapu Fini takes the 5★ Legendary Raid slot. Raid Hour is scheduled for 5/27 (Wed) 18:00–19:00 JST.

Tapu Fini is a defensively oriented Legendary with the Water / Fairy dual typing. With this kind of stat profile, raid and gym performance tends to be middling — the real value is in PvP, and Hyper League in particular gives Tapu Fini a strong rating.

The interesting hook is Super League. Raid-caught Tapu Fini ends up with IVs too high to enter Super League directly, but a trade-acquired Tapu Fini has a small chance of landing at CP1500 or below, which makes it Super League–legal. The kit itself is a little awkward — Nature's Madness is a strong charged move with a defense-debuff effect, but the overall movepool feels niche for experienced players. Still, the chance at a Super League–legal trade copy is what makes Tapu Fini worth keeping an eye on this week.

Mega Medicham Mega Raid (5/27 Wed – 6/2 Tue)

From Wednesday 5/27 at 5:00 JST through Tuesday 6/2 at 20:00, Mega MedichamMega Medicham takes the Mega Raid slot.

Mega Medicham is a Fighting / Psychic dual-type, but its stats are on the very low end of the Mega catalog. The role overlaps completely with Mega GalladeMega Gallade, and with Mega Mewtwo X arriving this same week as another Fighting / Psychic Mega, Mega Medicham is essentially overshadowed across the board.

Where this line still shines is Super League. The base form Medicham has Power-Up Punch as a strong charged move, so the practical use case is IV-hunting a Super League Medicham from the Mega Raids.

★1 / ★3 Raid Recommended Evolutions: Garchomp, Mamoswine, Shadow Tyranitar (Top Training Priority)

This section walks through three top-priority raid evolutions from the ★1 / ★3 spawn pool this week. At the time of writing, the ★1 / ★3 lineup from 5/27 onward had not been officially announced, so the recommendations are based on the confirmed Gible, Swinub, and Shadow Larvitar appearances through 5/26. For trainers who are not attending GO Fest Tokyo, evolving these three pieces is the highest-impact task of the week.

First up, the Gible evolution: GarchompGarchomp. One of the strongest Pokémon in the game — not just attack, but the entire stat line is high across the board. Strong as both a Dragon and a Ground attacker.

The Dragon / Ground typing gives a 3× resistance to Electric, so Garchomp racks up more total damage than Groudon or Landorus against Electric-type raid bosses. As a Dragon attacker, the standout move is Breaking Swipe, which you can learn from a standard TM — no Elite TM needed. As a Ground attacker, Garchomp lands at #3 excluding Mega and Shadow, so it sits comfortably in the top training priority.

Next, the Swinub evolution: MamoswineMamoswine. A long-standing top-tier Ice attacker — still the go-to Ice raid attacker today, even after White Kyurem joined the roster. Ice still has a thin attacker pool, and Mamoswine is the cleanest pick within it.

It sits at #6 in Ice (excluding Mega and Shadow) and #3 in Ground (excluding Mega and Shadow) as a dual-type attacker — even if your roster is still building, this is one of the strongest Pokémon you can secure right now.

Finally, the Shadow Larvitar evolution: Shadow TyranitarShadow Tyranitar. All-around high stats, useful in gyms, raids, and Team GO Rocket battles.

It does double duty as a Rock attacker, but Smack Down is a Community Day move locked behind an Elite TM, so the practical use case is the Dark kit. Compared to Hydreigon, raw damage is slightly lower, but the bulk is higher and you can teach Lash Out from a standard TM — that lower build cost makes Shadow Tyranitar much more accessible. Across all the available raid evolutions, this is one of the top training priorities.

GO Fest 2026 Tokyo City Area (On-site Only, 5/25 – 6/1)

GO Fest 2026 Tokyo is an on-site event for in-person attendees only. This section covers only the points relevant to on-site participants — if you are not attending in Tokyo, you can skip directly to the next section.

From 5/25 through 6/1, GO Fest 2026 Tokyo runs a City Explorer Timed Research throughout Tokyo. Trainers with a City Exploration Ticket can complete a tied-in Special Research to choose either Mega Mewtwo XMega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo YMega Mewtwo Y as the reward.

If you have purchased the City Exploration Ticket, take advantage of this window — it is the most accessible way to lock in one of the two Mega Mewtwo forms.

Mega Mewtwo X & Y Super Mega Raid (5/29 Fri – 6/1 Mon, GO Fest Tokyo, World Debut)

From Friday 5/29 through Monday 6/1, Mega Mewtwo X and Y make their worldwide debut in Super Mega Raids as part of GO Fest 2026 Tokyo.

Mega Evolution costs a substantial amount of Mega Energy, so raising multiples is impractical. The catches you make from the Super Mega Raid should be reserved as your best long-term Mega candidates first. For trainers who are not in Tokyo, the GO Fest 2026 Global event in July (open to all trainers) has also pre-announced Mega Mewtwo, so that window is your secondary route.

Mega Mewtwo XMega Mewtwo X breaks CP 7000 — surpassing even Mega Rayquaza. The Fighting type added by Mega Evolution puts it at the very top of the Fighting attacker ranking. With Counter as a learnable fast move, this is the kit to build for Fighting-type gym and raid use.

Mega Mewtwo YMega Mewtwo Y sits even higher than Mega Mewtwo X on the CP curve — the true CP king of the game. Despite the delicate appearance, both attack and defense come out above Mega Mewtwo X.

The typing stays mono-Psychic, but the movepool spans multiple offensive types. If you have been running regular Mewtwo with Elite Charged TM to swap between secondary charged moves of different types, Mega Mewtwo Y is the natural extension of that playstyle.

Picking between X and Y is genuinely close — both are excellent. If we have to point to one, the slightly more user-friendly choice is Mega Mewtwo X: the added Fighting typing means Counter and Focus Blast give you a complete Fighting kit out of the box, with no need to swap the second charged move.

Mega Mewtwo Y, on the other hand, leans into flexibility — Electric, Fire, and other types of charged moves are all available on the same body, so if you used Elite Charged TM on the original Mewtwo to rotate moves, the same workflow applies here.

Either one is a strong pick — there is no wrong answer, so going by appearance, or by Mega Mewtwo X's added Fighting typing, is a perfectly valid reason to choose. If you are still on the fence, hopefully the breakdown above helps.

Max Battle Simulator (Tool Introduction)

Our site's Max Battle Simulator is a browser-based tool that lets you practice Legendary Max Battle boss runs using your own Pokémon roster.

The simulator includes both a manual mode and an AI auto-pilot mode that drives the party for you so you can quickly compare damage output across candidate teams. It is free to use, so it pairs well with this week's Dynamax Combee Max Monday — evolve your female catch into Dynamax Vespiquen, drop the team into the simulator, and stress-test the tank role before committing to a full power-up.

We are continuing to add support for more bosses as new Max Battle events roll out, so a bookmark is appreciated.

Closing

May 25–31 is a special week — it overlaps with GO Fest 2026 Tokyo, which gives the schedule its unique shape.

For on-site participants, the headline is the Mega Mewtwo X & Y Super Mega Raid (world debut) running 5/29–6/1.

For trainers who are not attending GO Fest Tokyo, here is the recommended order to work through the week:
